I am primarily interested in the trend of rural migration, back-to-the-land movement, alternative farming and the development of traditional Chinese community in East Asia, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan.
My current MPhil project is an ethnographic study of community building in an indigenous village in Hong Kong. It is an abandoned village undergoing a multi-year community revitalisation project, where some city dwellers move to the village and engage in farming. My research examines how the nature of farm involvement and lineage traditions influence the farming identities and place experiences of farmers.
