For the first time in Indonesia’s history, a National General Election will be held for the president and members of the parliament on 17 April 2019. It is estimated that more than 190 million Indonesian citizens are eligible to vote. This includes those who are currently working in 130 countries. This event aims to strengthen the participation of Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong in Indonesia’s upcoming election.

In previous elections, participation by migrant workers has been relatively low due to the lack of information on political candidates and the lack of protection afforded to migrant workers by the Indonesian government. This event hopes to strengthen migrant workers’ political participation by facilitating communication between Indonesian migrant workers in Hong Kong and Indonesian legislative candidates for the upcoming election.

Organized by Indonesian Migrant Workers Union (IMWU), Network of Indonesian Migrant Workers (JBMI) and the Department of Sociology (HKU)
