Media Briefing – The myths and realities of migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong 媒體交流講座 – 港移民家務工的迷思與現實

Room CPD 1.24, Centennial Campus, The University of Hong KongDuring COVID-19 in Hong Kong, migrant domestic workers have faced increased workloads, less rest and reduced access to emergency and legal assistance; yet these issues have rarely been covered in the press. Migrant domestic worker organisers will hold a media briefing for journalists to promote responsible reporting on domestic work issues, discuss the structural factors shaping labour migration and bust harmful myths that distort the realities migrant domestic workers face in Hong Kong.
新冠肺炎疫情在香港肆虐期間,移民家務工的工作百上加斤、休息時間減少、尋求緊急法律和其他方面的援助比平時更艱難。但新聞媒體就我們處境的如實報導卻買少見少,充斥於主流媒體中的,反而是對移民家務工涼薄的報導。一群移民家務工組織者將舉辦交流講座,透過梳理他們移徙到外地,寄人籬下打工的來龍去脈,引導傳媒朋友更準確、妥當和負責任地發掘和分析關於移工的新聞故事,並駁斥一些關於移工的迷思和歪理。
