In 2015, the Indonesian government initiated a biometric passport system for Indonesian passport holders in Hong Kong and Macau. In the transition to this system, around 11 Indonesian domestic workers have been jailed and dozens have been investigated for administrative discrepancies between their previous and current identification documents. In this forum, Indonesian domestic worker-led organizations will meet with the Indonesian Consulate-General to voice their concerns about the potential for wrongful immigration fraud charges, propose strategies to prevent the criminalization of identification documents and discuss steps to assist domestic worker victims of identity falsification.

Kenali Hukum, Jauhi Hukuman: Sosialisasi Peraturan Kepada Buruh Migran Indonesia

This event is organized by the Network of Indonesian Migrant Workers – Jaringan Buruh Migran Indonesia (JBMI Hong Kong & Macau), and co-sponsored by the Consulate General of Indonesia (Hong Kong) and the HKU Centre for Criminology.
