Mr Hazuki Kaneko
PhD Student 8/F Hub, 8/F., The Jockey Club Tower, Centennial CampusBiography
Hazuki is an international student from Japan and currently pursuing his PhD degree in Sociology at HKU. Moving to Australia as a high school student from Japan, his first exposure to racism got him interested in studying his own racial and ethnic identity. Since then, he has gained sensitivity towards “inequality” issues. For his master’s thesis, he explored Japanese gay men’s sexual exclusion behavior through their use of online dating applications. In particular, their exclusion of non-Japanese men and feminine men as potential sexual/romantic partners was scrutinized, referring to previous studies on “sexual racism” and “no femmes” trend among gay men.
