Career Development Seminar with Dr Kevin Guyan

Dr Kevin Guyan is a Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow and Visiting Researcher at the University of Hong Kong. In this one-hour seminar, he will share career advice and insights from his work across the fields of equality, diversity and inclusion; media and cultural policy; and gender, sex and sexuality studies.


Topics will include:

  • Engaging different audiences – delivering talks and events for businesses, governments, tech companies and social justice groups.

  • Publishing – his experience of developing his book Queer Data and bringing it to publication.

  • Knowledge exchange – using your research to inform the work of non-academic institutions and shape policymaking.

  • Funding and grants – tips on applying for funding and maximising the chance of being successful.


The seminar welcomes all postgraduate and early career researchers and will provide opportunities for discussion and questions.


About the Speaker


Dr Kevin Guyan is a researcher and writer whose work explores the intersection of data and identity. He is the author of Queer Data: Using Gender, Sex and Sexuality Data for Action (Bloomsbury Academic), which examines the collection, analysis and use of gender, sex and sexuality data, particularly as it relates to LGBTQ people in the UK. In 2016, Kevin completed a PhD in History at University College London and has worked on several equality, diversity and inclusion projects across the UK and Europe.
