The Department of Sociology at The University of Hong Kong is excited to announce that applications are now open for our new Master of Social Sciences in the field of Sociology [MSocSc(Sociology)], launching in September 2025. This innovative programme is designed for individuals seeking to enhance their research and analytical skills to advance their careers in both the public and private sectors, as well as those preparing for further doctoral studies.

Our MSocSc(Sociology) programme offers an exceptional educational experience, equipping students with the ability to critically analyse social phenomena and apply theoretical frameworks to investigate complex social issues
Our programme adopts a problem-based approach to sociology, highlighting its vital role in understanding and responding to society’s most pressing challenges. We offer comprehensive training in research design, methods, and implementation, with a broad-based curriculum that encompasses the Department of Sociology’s four key strengths: sociology, criminology, media & cultural studies, and spatial population analysis.
Applications are now being accepted for both full-time and part-time enrolment. The deadline for applications is 12:00 noon (HKT) on February 14, 2025.
