I am very pleased to share the remarkable news that two professors from our sociology department, Prof. Guy Abel and Prof. Lai Wei, have been awarded the title of HKU-100 Scholar!

Prof. Abel is renowned for his exceptional research in demography, social statistics, and migration studies. His innovative work in developing computational methods for analyzing migration flows has significantly advanced our understanding of population dynamics. Prof. Abel's expertise and leadership in the field have established him as a prominent figure in academic circles, both locally and internationally.

Lai Wei studies social stratification, quantitative methodology, and computational social science. He is especially interested in combining causal inference with the study of social inequality. His recent research involves developing and applying causal inference methods to the study of intergenerational mobility.
