Integrity Behind Bars: Advancing Anti-Corruption Strategies in Prison Systems with UNODC, ICAC and IAACA

The Department of Sociology at HKU, in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), and the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), organized an international conference titled “Integrity Behind Bars: Advancing Anti-Corruption Strategies in Prison Systems” The event featured keynote speeches by Mr. Ricky Yau (ICAC Deputy Commissioner), Ms. Muchaneta Mundopa (Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, UNODC), Ms. Maria Adomeit (Chief of Thematic Support Section, Economic Crime Branch, UNODC), and Professor Peng Wang (Department of Sociology, HKU), who addressed topics including Hong Kong’s anti-corruption journey, global prison systems, corruption risk management, and anti-corruption efforts in Chinese prisons.
Professor Ming Wen, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and Mr. Woo Ying-Ming, ICAC Commissioner, delivered the opening remarks. Professor Tarani Chandola, Head of Department of Sociology, also joined the conference and engaged in fruitful discussions with Mr. Woo. The audience included UNODC officers, UN experts, ICAC officials, taught postgraduate criminology students, and research postgraduate students from HKU.
This conference marks an important foundation for future collaboration between the Department of Sociology, ICAC, and UNODC.
