Jie Su is a full-time PhD student at HKU Sociology. She spent the past seven years at Peking University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree from Yuanpei College and completed her master’s degree in sociology.
Her research focuses on economic sociology, cultural sociology and urban studies. She has explored topics like the rise of suburban hiking in China’s metropolises, legitimacy challenges faced by demolition agencies, and competition between migrant and local renovation teams in the home renovation market. She is particularly interested in the interplay between economy and culture within China’s ongoing societal transformation.
