This course reimagines sociology as a transformative force – one that does not stop at explaining the world, but dares to change it. By reclaiming sociology’s activist roots, we move beyond passive observation to purposeful engagement, equipping students with the tools to confront the world not only as it is, but as it could be.
Problem-Solving Sociology bridges the gap between social theory and everyday experience, making sociology a living, breathing field of study. In a world marked by complexity, volatility, and rapid transformation, we need a sociology that is as dynamic and adaptive as the challenges it confronts. This course answers the call by offering a flexible, evidence-driven framework for tackling global problems that moves beyond linear thinking and recycled solutions. By situating students at the intersection of critical inquiry and creative problem-solving, this course demonstrates how sociology informs public policy, shapes cultural discourse, and ignites social transformation.
Guided by the foundational truth that knowledge exists to be questioned, tested, and put into action, students will engage in critical reflection and collaborative problem-solving throughout the semester. Together, we will challenge assumptions, think boldly, and co-create transformative ideas to build a more just and equitable world.
